Sam King joined McGill in 2010 as a shareholder. Born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Sam majored in English at Creighton University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree in 1986.  He earned his Juris Doctor in 1989 from Creighton University School of Law. At Creighton, Sam served as a member of the International Moot Court Board and the Chairman of its Bench Brief Committee.  Following law school, Sam served as Judicial Clerk to Hon. George W. Wuest, Chief Justice, South Dakota Supreme Court, and Hon. Timothy J. Mahoney, Chief Judge, United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Nebraska.

Sam worked as an attorney in the United States Trustee’s Office for six years before entering private practice. Sam has extensive experience in bankruptcy, including Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 proceedings. Since joining McGill, he has served as counsel for Chapter 7 Trustee Rick Myers, and pursued preference claims, fraud claims, and actions to avoid liens and recover possession of estate property. Sam has represented debtors, lenders, lessors and lessees, secured and unsecured creditors, and potential asset purchasers in various bankruptcy proceedings.

Sam also has extensive commercial litigation experience.  He has litigated civil cases in state and federal courts and in arbitration. He counsels individuals and owners, developers, property managers, tenants, financial institutions, and investors, covering a broad range of commercial transactions.

Sam is a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association, Iowa State Bar Association, and the Omaha Bar Association. He has served as the President and Vice Chair of the Nebraska State Bar Association Bankruptcy Committee. Sam is the past President of St. Pius X/St. Leo Elementary School Board. Sam has earned the AV Preeminent designation in Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Ratings™, the gold standard in attorney ratings.
